Let’s say you’re looking to restore a gorgeous old house in Detroit. You’ve watched all the renovation shows. You’ve taken notes. You’ve toured the neighborhoods and most importantly, you have a renovation budget to work with. We’ve found two homes in two different neighborhoods. Both are $75,000 and need extensive work. Let’s check out each of them. East side or west side, Curbed readers. You decide!
First up is this 90-year-old house on Oakman Boulevard. It’s 2,900 square feet, with three bedrooms, two full and two half baths, a kitchen with breakfast nook, and it needs so much work. But it’s not THAT bad. It has nice archways and staircases. It’s also on a tree-lined street and has a two car garage. It also says it has a pool, but maybe it’s best that they don’t show it. The price? $75,000 exactly.
This next one is over on Field Street in Islandview. Many of the original doors and cabinetry have been salvaged, they just need someone to put it all back together. This one is smaller at just under 2,100 square feet, with three bedrooms and one and a half baths. It’s partially finished and hey, is that a boat in the backyard? It’s listing for $74,900.
