Advanced Disposal, one of the city's two private waste haulers, just announced that its entire Detroit fleet—56 trucks in all—will be powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). What does that mean? Quieter trucks belching less exhaust--a 23% reduction in greenhouse gas compared with a typical diesel garbage truck. The company also announced the construction of a new CNG fueling station at a DPW yard near Southfield and I-96. Look for the new trucks on the west side starting June 2.
