One of Dan Gilbert's more stereotypical billionaire possessions (other than the horse lamp) is his model of downtown Detroit. Made with laser-cut buildings and hand-painted landscaping, the model is ridiculously detailed. Whenever Dan Gilbert buys a new building (which seems to happen every few weeks), its miniature counterpart is triumphantly illuminated.
Since our only photo of Mini Detroit caused a fuss, the model's designers—Ferndale-based Zoyes Creative Group—sent us over the above replacements. The project also made an appearance on last year's excellent/depressing episode of 60 Minutes, "Detroit on the Edge." Catch it at the link below.
