Detroit's Ghost Steamship Will Be Floating Away for Restoration

New, 7 comments

The floating hulk of the S.S. Columbia, docked in Ecorse, Michigan, is the oldest remaining steam passenger vessel in the country; it crisscrossed the Detroit River headed for Ontario for 89 years but has been neglected for the last 20. A new plan to restore the ship will put it afloat in New York’s Hudson Valley, which means it will be outta here for now. Before the boat got away, photographer and preservationist Catherine Garvin took some shots for the Architect's Newspaper last month.
