Curbed Cup 1st Round: (1) Corktown vs. (8) Ferndale

New, 10 comments

The Curbed Cup is our annual award for neighborhood of the year. Today we are kicking off with 8 'hoods vying for the prestigious fake trophy. This week we'll have one matchup per day; all the results will be reviewed on Friday.

Our first matchup looks a bit like coffee wars! In the past year Corktown may have given us Astro Coffee, but Ferndale fired back with Torino and Red Hook. Both hoods also got into the fancy pants cocktail game in the last year. Ferndale gave us The Oakland Art Novelty Company while Corktown answered with Sugar House. In the upcoming news department, Ferndale is still taunting us with Imperial, a new taco joint, while Corktown will soon open Mercury Burger Bar. Corktown's 2051 Rosa Parks building and the rumored train station development put it in the spotlight multiple times this year, making it the number one seed. Can suburbanites pull off an upset?
