Loft Appeal in Former Hardware Shop

1877 is looking like a good year for bricks in Eastern Market. This property, listed for $159,900, began life as a Hardware store in 1877 and lasted that way until the 1930's. The adjacent building popped up around 1910 as a stove appliance center and was connected by passages on the first floor and in the basement. Right now the first floor is "roughed out" according to the listing, but the loft apartment photos are worth an oggle for hardwood floor and brick wall envy. With four bedrooms and 4,000 square feet to work with there is potential aplenty.

The listing is promising that these wood floor are new but the wood ceilings are what caught us. After the hardware store went bust, the building tried out selling luggage before several different incarnations as store front churches. Most recently, it was a photography studio with a gallery on the second floor.
