Tax Auction Craziness: 69 Bids on a Gas Station

New, 3 comments

As of 1:45 pm yesterday, someone in Detroit owns a very expensive gas station. With 69 bids in the Wayne County tax auction (the most on any single property so far) ID #: 511055 went for $311,500. With an opening bid of just $16,700 and with an assessment of $90,666, that is one monstrous mark up. Is someone breathing those gas station fumes a lil too hard? Or just caught up in the e-bay magic of the out-bidding process? Send speculation and tanks of gas to detroit@curbed.com.
