Faster trains from Detroit to Chicago and a commuter train to Ann Arbor might soon be possible. MDOT is spending more than $500 million to purchase tracks between Dearborn and Kalamazoo and improve them. With Amtrak going 110 mph for these stretches, you'll be able to get to Chicago in four hours, which is about the same amount of time it takes to take a local bus from Detroit to Birmingham.
