Prefab homes weren't always the dismal cubes of plastic siding you see today. Up until the Great Depression, companies like Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Ward produced "kit homes" that could be ordered by mail. This 1928 example is not too shabby, to say the least. Highlights include hand-chiseled granite countertops and a glass conservatory overlooking Sylvan Lake. [Detroit News]
