The Curbed Cup is our annual award for neighborhood of the year. Today, we kick off Round One with 16 'hoods vying for the prestigious fake trophy. This week we'll have two contests per day, in which you will have 24 HOURS to vote.
Don't like Ferndale's spot in this contest? Quit whining and vote 'er outta here! BUT, before you do, know that The 'Dale has not spent 2012 resting on its trendy hindquarters. Nay, Ferndale somehow improved upon The Oakland (the acclaimed craft cocktail speakeasy) by bringing us Honi Honi—The Oakland's delightful summertime patio. Imperial also opened its doors this year, filling our bellies with tiny tacos and vision-blurring cocktails.
But the Cup isn't based (entirely) on liquid libations, and Indian Village hasn't taken the year off either. The classic nabe spent plenty of time in the limelight for having skin in the Hantz Farms debacle, and still offers up a splendid array of housing stock that, to put it lightly, blows all those puny Ferndale bungalows out of the water. It even had a cameo in Whitney Houston's last movie, Sparkle, which hit theaters last August. So which 'hood moves on, readers?
