Curbed Cup First Round: (1) Corktown Vs. (16) Palmer Park

New, 11 comments

The Curbed Cup is our annual award for neighborhood of the year. Today, we kick off Round One with 16 'hoods vying for the prestigious fake trophy. This week we'll have two contests per day, in which you will have 24 HOURS to vote.

Our first matchup of The Cup features the Detroit heavyweight Corktown up against Palmer Park, the the upstart calling itself Uptown. Corktown's 2012 was certainly dominating--Mercury Bar began offering beers and burgers, while Michigan Central Station turned the lights on and spent an evening with 50 Cent, Eminem, and a low-flying helicopter. Palmer Park's 2012 wasn't quite as glamorous, but a rebranding campaign got underway, while major apartment buildings began seeing attention and new residents. Palmer is laying a foundation, no doubt, but does this 'hood from the north have the strength to take on Corktown's glitz? You have 24 hours of voting time to decide.
