The controversial sale of around 1,500 East Side properties to John Hantz was approved by the City Council today. Hantz plans to plant hardwood trees and ornamental crops as a farm and beautification project on the largely-vacant land. Many Detroiters have opposed his ambitious plan from the get-go for a plethora of reasons, ranging from fear of a massive land-grab to conspiracies involving pesticide use. Hantz has promised to clean up the land, removing between 50-100 blighted structures that remain. More on the Hantz Woodlands sale to come.
