Is Corktown's Michigan Ave corridor the most eatery-heavy area in Detroit? (And can Slows take credit for starting it?) A new restaurant will join the area courtesy of a Canadian. Owner Devrie Gifford, 30, said she has no ties to Detroit, had never visited the city until recently and was looking for a community that is "very passionate about local farming and urban agriculture." Her planned place, called "Brooklyn Street Local," will open in the spring and is (thankfully) named for it's location on Brooklyn Street, not the "Detroit is the new..." trend. It will serve breakfast and lunch on a block shared with the also-still-in-progress Detroit Institute of Bagels. Mercury Burger Bar, also serving breakfast on Michigan Ave, is set to open soon and an Italian restaurant is planned. [The Detroit News]
