The planned demo of the "Brewster Projects" (aka: Frederick Douglass public housing complex) is stirring up some mixed emotions in the Detroit News today. Granted everything of value has been stripped out, but the site is still historic for being "the nation's first federally funded public housing development for African-Americans." One-time residents include Diana Ross and the Ballards, as well as Motown greats Mary Wilson and Smokey Robinson and even comedienne Lily Tomlin. [The Detroit News]
