Curbed Cup Winner Wire

The 2011 Curbed Cup Neighborhood of the Year Award winner, Ferndale, is going for a sweep for the next 20 years. Ferndale City Council members approved an amendment last week that will extend the Ferndale Downtown Development and Tax Increment Financing Plan (TIF) through 2032. The TIF funds the Downtown Development Authority, which has been on a roll lately, and will allow the city to keep the growth momentum going. Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter bragged, "The development of our downtown is nothing short of remarkable ... I think the TIF is the single biggest catalyst to making that happen." Should we just go ahead award Ferndale the prestigious fake trophy now, or will Dan Gilbert's atrocious design decisions inexplicably triumph for a downtown win? [Ferndale Patch]
