As a Jane Jacobs reader, I agree with you that street level activity is important. But, as a regular convention attendee, I can tell you that having an attached hotel is a huge selling point for people planning conventions. This is especially true in a city like Detroit, where, with the exception of this year, the weather is miserable for 4-5 months per year. I'm thinking that if it's going the be the hotel for Cobo, they actually should make it a bit more upscale: a Hyatt or (to keep it in the same group) an Intercontinental. -PestiEsti [Former Hotel Pontchartrain Sold!
