Detropia Update: Detroit now cool enough to see its own documentary

Eight months into our coverage of Loki Films' Sundance-famous Detroit documentary, we can now inform you that after screenings from Toronto to Tel Aviv, Detropia is finally coming to Metro Detroit! Despite initial suggestions that the film would be shown here as early as March, a test screening whose reception could be charitably described as "awful" may have encouraged the delay. But we can just now make it out over the horizon: after a grand September 7 release at the IFC Center in New York, the film will open September 14 at the Ren Cen, the Main Art in Royal Oak, and the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor. We hope that by then someone will have worked out how to fit some popcorn under those gold gasmasks.
