Death and Taxes

Wayne County is trying to get a property tax increase on the November ballot. The funds would be used for drug enforcement, juvenile justice programs, and to hire more prosecutors. If it passes, the new tax would cost the owner of a $150,000 home about $73 a year. That does not sound so bad, but this does: if approved by voters, Wayne would levy 9.1 mills, 65% more than Macomb County and 91% more than Oakland County. [Freep]
