Abandoned Hotel to Become Classy Crowne Plaza This Spring

New, 6 comments

The former Hotel Pontchartrain, long a victim of shady management and iffy finances, is looking to turn over a new leaf with a big reopening as an upscale Crowne Plaza hotel this spring. Purchased by Mexico-based developer Gabriel Ruiz last April, the Pontch has since undergone what appears to be some considerable renovation work. Though the exact details of what's been done have yet to be released, the healthy dose of Crowne Plaza purple to the Pontch's facade leaves us wondering how much purple made it into the interior. The hotel has been closed since the air conditioning system failed during a large Baptist conference in 2009, with guests claiming the hotel was in such bad shape they had to buy cleaning supplies just to make it usable.
