Yet another parking-induced demolition is shaping up, this time in the enclave of Hamtramck. Like most community gardens, Hamtown Farms has a permit to grow on their plot of city-owned land. Now, the neighboring Kowalski Sausage factory wants that land for a new parking lot, offering the city $3,000 for the property. Since Hamtramck has an emergency manager at the helm, it's unclear exactly what sort of approvals process the sale must go through, or what must be done if Hamtown Farms wants to harvest more than asphalt next year.
