A few blocks north of Mexicantown, this area (and most of SW Detroit) offers a good mixture of architecture and value. They're good hunting grounds for ambitious renovators seeking a project. Built in 1912, here's a house with a reduced asking price, recently dropping from the upper-$20s to $18,500. That clearance price buys 1,663 square feet with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and little else. Sadly, it's missing plumbing and electrical. That furnace doesn't look too promising, either. There is one giant perk: a brand new roof. At the very least, you'll be renovating out of the rain. In this price range, that's not always a guarantee.
