Paying Taxes in Detroit? The Rest Of Your Block Might Not Be

New, 12 comments

A quick gander at the tax status map on WDWOT is enough to conclude that Detroit homeowners aren't fond of paying their property taxes, which are the highest of any major city in the country. A mind-blowing Detroit News study reveals nearly half of Detroit's taxable properties didn't pay their 2011 bill, while 70 city blocks had only one tax-paying property. These "blocks of scofflaws" aren't doing the city any good, but many property owners don't have to worry about foreclosure, as Wayne County doesn't even have the resources to forclose on thousands of eligible parcels. Read some more ridiculous Detroit statistics on the News' website. We need a drink.
