Cut the Road: Grosse Pointe Park Retail Doesn't Want Detroit

New, 44 comments

Developer David Cotton has an idea to revive retail in Grosse Pointe Park along Kercheval Avenue: Cut it off from Detroit. Cotton's plans call for an entertainment district starting with a new building in the middle of Kercheval Avenue at Alter road. That would cut a major east-west route, joining Fox Creek in buffering Grosse Pointe Park from Detroit's east side. Cotton has spent $2.4M over the last few years acquiring at least seven properties on or just off of Kercheval. The exact plans aren't clear yet, but we do know Cotton has approached a Birmingham restaurant and a couple of microbreweries about moving to the area.
