Magic's State Fairgrounds Bid Accepted, But Gateway Marketplace Should Have 8 Mile Shopping By Spring

New, 22 comments

The Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority has accepted Magic Johnson's bid for the state fairgrounds site, proving that it's hard to lose a contest in which you're the only qualified contender. Magic envisions building a movie theatre, senior housing and a bunch of other unnamed "big box" stuff, but that can't start until an exact design is agreed upon, which can't happen until Magic bothers to show us one. Basically nothing has changed and you should really just be watching the corner of 8 Mile and Woodward next door, where the Gateway Marketplace is taking shape. Set to open this spring, the Gateway already has all kinds of committed tenants including Meijer, McDonalds, Marshalls, and a K&G Superstore.
