Rendering Rhetoric

New, 16 comments

Rochelle Riley of the Free Press finally got around to viewing Dan Gilbert's renderings for downtown Detroit. And she's concerned: "I didn't see children. I didn't see groups of children leaving school and heading down to the newly revamped space...I hope he also plans for the young people." We're sorry to disappoint you, Rochelle, but the spraypark, climbable sculpture, playscape and carousel are not there to entertain you and your fellow adults. And that's just the eastern half of Grand Circus Park. Other parks contain things like sand volleyball, basketball, and planned programs with the YMCA—not to mention the notion that a walkable Downtown probably does the most good for those who are not able to drive. What renderings were you looking at? [Freep]
