What's Next For Corktown? Keep An Eye On These Two Listings

New, 8 comments

Corktown cultivated a dizzying array of new businesses in the last year or so. As the neighborhood gains more and more momentum, it's worth keeping an eye on its scant supply of commercial space. There's never a huge selection available at any one time, but there are two particularly promising spaces up for grabs right now. Let's look into the Curbed Crystal Ball and see what might house Corktown's next big thing:

2125 Michigan Avenue
2,800 Square Feet
$285,000
Location! Visible to those grazing Slows, this 1952 storefront has one of the best locations in Corktown. Completely remodeled just two years ago, potential new owners need not worry about expensive utility repairs—the mechanical systems, electric, and security system are all new. This may be a ready-made setting for a bar or restaurant, and the price tag means the buyer probably won't have a business plan reliant on a successful Kickstarter campaign. That would be refreshing.

1500 Trumbull
2,611 Square Feet
$210,000
Just south of Michigan Ave near St. CeCe's Pub, this 113-year-old corner building is walkable from the residential streets of Corktown. A lack of parking precludes some businesses, but the 24-foot ceilings and 10-foot windows inside would be best utilized in an establishment customers spend time in, like a bar or restaurant.
