Cleaner Detroit River Bringing Downtown Some Green

New, 13 comments

The Detroit River's decade-long transformation into something walkable and non-gross was definitely a good idea, says a recent survey of riverfront visitors. The Freep reports that the river's appeal is responsible for a boatload of cash flowing into Detroit at a rate of $43.7M per year, a number that'll probably trend upwards once the RiverWalk's western extension is complete. In other good river news, the Detroit River is the cleanest its been in decades; its status as an environmental "area of concern" is expected to be removed in 3-5 years.
