Though it was supposed to start in March, the Globe Building's transformation into an MDNR "discovery center" commenced earlier this week after more than a year of chatter. Though the photo might look like the building is being erased entirely, "about half" of the building will remain standing and incorporated into the new facility. When the doors eventually open (the original ETA was Fall 2013, but there's no way that's still happening), the Globe Building will, according to WWJ, "serve as a gateway to introduce youth and adults to activities that can be experienced at Michigan's parks, beaches, trails and harbors." Dating back to 1892, the building is apparently coming down with "great ease."
