The Detroit Marriott Hotel at the RenCen is determined to ensure its rooms not be out-classed by the growing competition downtown. They're planning a gigantic $30M renovation, redecorating all 1,329 rooms. Fortunately, Marriott is ready to ditch its colorful bedspreads, admitting that views from the 70-story hotel provide all the visual stimulation guests could hope for. The old color scheme looks like something you'd find aboard a cruise ship, but renovations will shift the tone from festive to restive. Come February, the abundance of reds and burnt oranges should begin to disappear under "neutrals and grays with teal accents."
