Arena District Demo Spree Continues on Charlotte Street

New, 18 comments

Clearance efforts in the Arena District are gaining momentum. After smashing a trio of historic homes on Temple, the demolition derby continued its romp one block north on Charlotte Street. Two brick garages—one built in 1916, the other in 1928—were put to bed on Thursday.

Both properties are on the edge of the Arena District boundaries. Who exactly is behind the activity is unknown, but it's thought that DTE Energy is clearing the area to expand capacity at a neighboring substation. We haven't heard confirmation from DTE, but their substation is one of just two buildings on the block that remain standing.
