Auction Winner Gets To Implode a 17-Story Office Building

New, 2 comments

This holiday season, give your overworked loved one the satisfaction of imploding an abandoned hunk of corporate architecture. As a fundraiser for scholarships, Oakland Community College is auctioning off the chance to push the big red button when North Park Plaza is demolished later this month. The school bought the property out of foreclosure last March, paying $2.5M to secure growing room for its nearby Southfield Campus. OCC officials have declared that "the age of the building makes it obsolete," (it was built in 1972) and that renovation is "not worth the time and effort and money."
