Scott Fountain Now Scheduled to Operate Seven Days a Week

New, 5 comments

This summer, the Scott Fountain will reassume its full-time job as the gurgling centerpiece of Belle Isle. After the DNR announced plans to operate the complicated monument on weekends, Local 4 reports the schedule is expanding: Starting May 31, the marble masterpiece is scheduled to flow every day throughout the summer.

That's exciting news for a fountain that's overcome vandalism, scrapping, and its own aging innards. According to Local 4, the weekend warrior schedule would've resulted in an "algae buildup," which sounds unpleasant. The video below is another interesting look into the Scott's underground control room, which includes this fun fact: The Scott Fountain was originally designed to shoot a jet of water "so high, you could see it from Downtown Detroit."
