Artisinal Toast; Detroit Bar City; More!

MIDTOWN— Apparently "artisinal toast" is a thing in several US cities, and now Detroit is testing out the trend with toast by the slice at Avalon in Midtown. For $3.25 a slice of toast with butter, jam, cinnamon sugar, or other toppings can provide a quick breakfast. Worth it? Detroit has yet to decide.

DETROITBar City 2014 is the awesome new title bestowed on this fair city, courtesy of Esquire magazine. Cocktail expert David Wondrich visited in March, and was thrilled with the assortment of bars he visited, from Nemo's to Cliff Bell's, Grand Trunk to Sugar House, and everything in between.

DETROIT/METRO DETROIT— Brunch is Detroit and Metro Detroit's new "it" meal, as restaurants old and new are adding the weekend meal to their menus. The most recent additions to the plethora of brunch options include Bistro 82 in Royal Oak and Joe Muer Seafood on the riverfront. Expect French-inspired cuisine at Bistro 82, and total seafood decadence at Joe Muer's.

DOWNTOWNCornerstone Barrel House on Woodward has completely passed all original opening dates, but the paper is off of the windows and the interior is starting to look snazzy. A sign on the window and the removal of the old Oslo lettering suggests that maybe a summer opening is possible after all.
