Belle Isle Ire Mounts: Protest Planned for Tonight

Belle Isle after the state takeover is a whole new kind of place, and people are angry about the lawless-less-ness. For instance, City Clerk Janice Winfrey was stopped for doing 35 m.p.h. in a 25 m.p.h. zone on Good Friday. So there's a protest tonight and it is meeting at the Giant Slide. It all sounds comical, until there's a spokesman for Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality involved. Said he, "The ticketing and warning stops that have occurred on the Island appear to be meant to discourage certain people from enjoying this historic park. We will not tolerate that." State law enforcement authorities say that 200 people had been arrested in the park from Feb. 1 to March 31.
