The pooch party was raging in Midtown last weekend. The neighborhood's first dog park opened at Cass and Canfield on Friday—the second to open in Detroit this year. Even for the grumpiest, dog-hating residents, the park is definitely an aesthetic upgrade from the empty lot it used to be.
The dog park is half of a project by funded by Shinola and Midtown Detroit Inc, which is also creating a green alley Immediately to the west. From what we heard back in April, this park is meant to be in place for a few years, after which the property owner hopes to build something on it. Long-term plans call for a permanent dog park somewhere on 2nd Avenue.
