Cobo Center's renovation bonanza is spilling out onto Washington Boulevard. The Detroit News report that plans have been approved for a $3.4M streetscape upgrade. Billed as Cobo's "front porch," the project will result in a new plaza called Cobo Square. Design details haven't been announced, but it appears new plaza will eliminate the awkward parking lot at Jefferson and Washington, adding more room for pedestrians and simplifying the traffic out front. Cobo Square is also the final destination for the nearby Shinola street clock, which was temporarily installed at Washington and Larned until construction finishes up.
