I have a squatter on my street occupying a vacant house bought and lost for taxes by another out of state speculator. He doesn't cause trouble and at least is a presence there that discourages arson. It's a much more complex problem than can be summed up in a short article. In the long term, Foley makes the case that it's not sustainable for the city in the long term-agreed. In the short term, some squatters might be helping prevent more bad stuff from happening and yes, others are just a problem for their neighborhood. Take it on a case by case basis. - A.L.
