Former Kresge World HQ Building Has Some Amazing Potential

The former S. S. Kresge World HQ Building in Cass Park is the Kresge company's second Albert Kahn-designed HQ. The first was what is now the Kales apartment building downtown. This Cass Park HQ was one of America's most original and innovative office buildings when it was designed in the 1920s. It is now owned by Wayne State University; in 1972 Kresge moved offices to Troy.

We've been hearing of plans for something called The Block at Cass Park for a while now. The website bills it as "office, research, startup, and creative space." However the current status of renovations and leasing is a little unclear. In April Model D wrote about the building's conversion and rebranding from Metropolitan Center for High Technology to become Block at Cass Park. The newsletter publication claimed there was 100,000 square feet of office space in the 250,000 square foot building available. Got a status update for us? Leave it in the comments or tell the tipline. In the meantime, enjoy a photo tour of the building as it looked this spring.
