Wild Auction Ride Gets Wilder As Midtown Property Pulled

New, 13 comments

The Wayne County Tax auction's most intriguing property this year is 580 Frederick the amazing house-turned-hospital in midtown that was auctioned off without the owners knowing it was in the auction. Yesterday we reported that once bidding had started on the property that the owners, the Detroit Medical Society, tried to get it out of the auction with a last minute check for $3,800 in unpaid taxes and fees. At the time the treasurer denied the request but then late last night HistoricDetroit posted the above image on facebook which implies it was pulled from bidding and returned to the Detroit Medical Society. It also shows that this happened after 177 bids and a possible closing price of $196K. We will keep you posted as we learn more.
