Closed since 1977, the Metropolitan Building is looking rough. A press release now claims that facade improvements will start today, with workers beginning to remove years of dirt, grime and graffiti. Work is supposed to kick off at 12:30 p.m., but the bigger picture for redevelopment of this building remains unclear. In June we were told that the new "potential developer" was interested in creating 61 high-end apartments along with commercial space and retail. Today's press release does not elaborate on that plan or the timeline.
