After more than four years on the market, the Van Dusen mansion has finally sold for $739,900; the deal closed on August 29th, according to a realtor. The house was built in 1922 for Charles Van Dusen, prez of Kmart's predecessor Kresge. This 10,000 square foot mansion came on the market in 2010 for $860,000. In 2012 it was asking $750,000. The seven-bedroom and nine-bathroom home has a large walnut-panelled great hall, a ballroom and billiard rooms, and a second apartment over the garage. While its neighbor the Fisher Mansion brought in a more impressive closing price, this will still be one of the most expensive homes sold in Detroit this year.
