Curbed O'Ween Day 7: Halloween with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra

Detroit's Orchestra Place made our map of spooky places in the city because of reports that one of its non-alive directors haunting the basement. Now's your chance to see if g-g-ghosts are real, and to take in a fun concert of Danny Elfman's music from Tim Burton movies. Friday and Saturday Oct 30-31st at 8 p.m., the DSO will perform a program of what they describe as "the hair-raising scores from Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Dark Shadows."

The Halloween performances are a bit of an encore—the DSO made the U.S. orchestra premiere of the Danny Elfman/Tim Burton program in 2013. Elfman and Burton spoke about the program shortly before the original debut. This video gives you an idea of what to expect next weekend:

Guest performers will include the Adrian College Concert Choir, and boy soprano Bryce Yung who has solos in the orchestra's renditions of themes from Frankenweenie, Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow. If you dress as your favorite Tim Burton character, like the enterprising woman in the photo below from 2013's DSO Tim Burton event, you could be in for some free goodies. The first fifty audience members to arrive in Burton flair will receive free candy.
