Halloween is barely over, but that isn't stopping Campus Martius Park and Quicken Loans. The downtown gathering spot and community party space welcomed its 2015 Christmas tree today. It's not decorated, but the city's official tree arrived at Campus Martius Park today and was raised by crane to perch atop the Woodward Fountain. The massive Michigan-grown Norway Spruce, a 60-foot tall, 10,000-lb behemoth, traveled over 200 miles from Cadillac, Mich, for an installation ceremony today.

Workers will now spend countless hours adorning the tree with more than 19,000 LED lights and red and silver ornaments . The official tree lighting ceremony takes place Friday Nov 20, and will feature a whole evening of activities astarting at 5pm. The tree gets lit at 8:00pm, and the party will include performances by figure skaters including World Champion Todd Eldridge. Totally fitting, given that the tree ceremony marks the start of another fun Detroit tradition—the opening of Campus Martius' outdoor skating rink.
