Last week, our readers had strong opinions about a carriage house apartment in midtown asking $1800 a month. Sure, the space is charming, but $1800 is a lot to pay for one bedroom, even with an attached 2-car garage and backyard in Midtown. For $450 less a month, you can rent the main house that shares a lot with the garage conversion/loft. This charming victorian has two bedrooms, three fireplaces, hardwood floors, a clawfoot tub, a dishwasher and a massive rear deck.
The unit comes with gated parking and though the outside is all 1880s style, the electric and plumbing are brand new, and the place has central air. The landlord also swears the new Thermo-pane windows "super insulation" mean "very low utility bills." Why this unit is so much less than the adjacent garage conversion is a bit of a mystery. It has a second bedroom, a half bath and has three more fireplaces than its sister property. This place would make a great roommate situation, though, especially for professionals who work nearby.
