It was a long slog, but Detroit's urban farm is bringing home the green. With 55% of the vote, the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative (MUFI) was declared the winner of the Gro1000 grant competition, taking home the top prize of $40,000. MUFI beat out bids from Oakland, New York City and Orlando, securing the top spot by a margin of roughly 17,000 votes. The money will build a children's sensory garden at MUFI's North End farm, providing kids with an interactive "outdoor classroom."
