Detroit's barely-functioning parking system will change this summer, reports Crain's. The city is preparing to ditch its famously unreliable meters in favor of "pay-by-plate" technology. That means your payment will be connected with your license plate number instead of an individual parking space, freeing you to move between spots on a single payment. Additional time can be added using a smartphone app or at outdoor kiosks, which will accept coins or credit cards. The new system is expected to begin tests near 7 Mile and Livernois (the 'Avenue of Fashion') next month, with a full rollout later in the summer.
