WIth their $29.5M iceberg mansion under construction, the Detroit Zoo's penguins are pumped. Known as the Polk Penguin Conservation Center, the future party pad will have a chilled "aquatic sea" for deep diving, a zone for tobogganing, and all the choicest penguin amenities. In announcing the arrival of two more party penguins today, the zoo mentioned that Iceberg Mansion construction has reached the one-year countdown.
That means things are on schedule, which is good news for the biggest project in the history of the Detroit Zoo. For now, the penguins will have make due with their old digs in the dated Penguinarium, which we're now hearing is slated to become a bat sanctuary once the penguins move on.
