Historic Apartments Slowly Rebuild After Lightning Strike

New, 5 comments

Two years after a lightning strike barbecued 5734 Woodward, the historic apartment building is slowly being put back together. The improbable comeback involves saving and restoring the original 1911 facade, then rebuilding the collapsed rear portion of the building anew.
The finished product will have apartments upstairs and a pair of commercial spaces on the first floor, though details on those spaces and an ETA have yet to be released. It's also worth noting that the restored storefronts will mimic their historic design, not the chunky modernization in place when the fire hit. Think much bigger windows.
UPDATE (7:40 PM): Owner/developer Joel Landy adds that there will be four lofts, each with its own roof deck.
