Rocket Fiber's presence in Detroit will go beyond the 5.5 miles of fiber-optic cable being installed under downtown's streets. The Gilbert-funded internet company just announced plans to sprout a retail electronics store at 1505 Woodward, which explains the intense renovation activity spotted there over the last couple months. The 5,000-square-foot space will also function as a training center to "help bridge the digital divide by teaching computer and Internet literacy." The space won't be ready for several months, but it'll be interesting to see what a Rocket Fiber storefront looks like. Built in 1931, the building's design seems uniquely suited for something sleek and flashy.
UPDATE (12:13 p.m.): Rock Ventures emailed us a clarification stating that the Rocket Fiber offices are planned at 1505 Woodward, but the location of the electronics store "is still to be determined."
