Three years after a revived Mercury Bar began serving up burgers, life is returning to the sleepy cluster of storefronts right next door. A couple doors down from the future home of Detroit Artifactory, a shuttered art gallery previously on the market for $285K is undergoing a major overhaul. Look for much bigger windows and two new businesses—a salon and a bike shop—to open within.
METROPOLIS CYCLES: Metropolis specializes in commuter bikes, selling "rehabilitated vintage bicycles and new bicycles from dealers largely unavailable in the Detroit area." After months of construction, the shop is aiming to open on April 8. [Website]
BLACK THE SALON: This Royal Oak salon is expanding with a second location in Corktown. The date is a little sketchier on this one, but founder Jeph Wright has said that he hopes to have it ready on June 12, exactly six years after the Royal Oak location first opened. [Website]
